Langdale & Blea Tarn Workshop - Price £95 (Max of 3 people)

As part of the day we aim to visit as many of the locations listed below as possible but this will depend on the weather, ground conditions and the time of year. I like to keep the workshop sizes small with a maximum of three participants, this will enable me to give you more attention thus enabling you to get the most from your day. The start time will vary throughout the year with the aim of starting just before sunrise and the day will last for around 8 hours (minimum).

 

On the workshop the emphasis will be on informal tuition looking at: Camera settings, the use of ND filters, how to improve the image with simple composition tweaks, how to add impact and the use of long exposure techniques.

There will be some quite steep walking as part of this workshop, this is to enable us to gain height on Side Pike & Lingmoor Fell, to compensate the first part of the day at the River Brathay and around Blea tarn are quite flat.  We will take plenty of rest stops to make the walking manageable when tackling the steeper inclines as part of the day. The surfaces will be uneven and walking boots are required. If you have wellington boots please bring these along, especially in the winter months.

River Brathay, Elterwater & Slaters Bridge:

Always a delight down by the River Brathay, whether it's to catch a copse of trees reflecting in the still waters with a slight mist at sunrise or the mood of the valley on one of its cloudier days. On a calm misty morning its always worth a wander as far as Elterwater to catch the first light on the Pikes. It's worth a slight detour on the trip up to Blea Tarn to capture Slaters Bridge in the early morning light with the added attraction of Cathedral Cavern only 5 mins walk away from here.

Side Pike:

Well worth the effort of a walk up Side Pike as the views from this small fell at the end of Lingmoor Fell are just amazing. There's an old tumbledown wall that offers several photographic opportunities shooting both ways, with Blea Tarn one way and the Langdale Pikes the other. With lots of interest on the walk up you can always use the excuse of capturing another image when you want a breather. The end of summer is one of the ideal times to visit this small fell as it will be covered in flowering heather and looks gorgeous.

Lingmoor Fell:

There are some cracking views all along this modest fell, with the wall leading towards Side Pike at one end to use as foreground interest or the views from the other side to include Blea Tarn. In late summer parts of the fell are just covered in heather which add to the beauty of this part of the Lakes

Blea Tarn:

Although only a small tarn it nestles between some rugged fells with a quite spectacular view towards the Langdale Pikes with some interesting boulders on its shore to use as foreground interest.

What you need to bring with you on the day:

 

Appropriate clothing, walking boots, wellingtons (if you have them), waterproofs, hat & gloves.

DSLR, tripod, filters & holder (if you don't have filters or a holder there may be a possibility that I have something that you can loan for the day).

Lenses, memory cards, spare battery.

Packed lunch, snacks & warm drinks.

Don't forget to charge up your camera batteries prior to the day.
